A Study on the Height and Weight of Workers in Various Occupation

Abstract
In order to obtain an index for the management of worker¢¥s health, a study was carried out to analyze records of physical examination of 10,925 workers (8,882 in male and 2,043 in female) from Jan. 1984 to Dec. 1985.
The height and weight values measured by cross sectional study were analyzed statistically by age and occupation.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The mean body height was 167.8cm in male and 156.5cm in female. By age group, the highest was in the twenties, and occupationally salesmen and service workers were the highest in both sexes. There were significant differences statistically.
2. The mean body weight was 63.3kg in male and 52.6kg in female. By age group, the highest was in the forties in both sexes, and occupationally clerical and managers of industry were the highest in male, and vehicle conductors in female. There were significant differences.
3. The mean relative body weight by Katsura formula was 103.7 in male and 103.6 in female. By age group, it was highest in the forties in both sexes, and occupationally it was the highest in the clerical and managers of industry in male and vehicle conductors in female. There were significant differences.
4. Weight values by age and occupation were more variable than height values in both sexes, but it was more obvious in male.
5. In both sexes, the mean height and weight value of industrial workers were higher than that of school and governmental office workers in the twenties and the thirties. But in older workers the situation was reversed and it was more obvious in female. There were significant differences.
